How do I set-up forwarding ports for Xbox Live?

What to do

  • Setting up the ports to be forwarded on the router
  • Setting up a static internal IP address on the Xbox

Setting up the ports to be forwarded on the router

  1. Enter the advanced configuration of the Huawei router by typing “advanced” as the username and password
  2. Once in the advanced configuration, click on Advanced Setup and then select on NAT
  3. In the main NAT menu, select Select a service and from the dropdown menu select Xbox
  4. The Server IP Address will be the static internal IP address set up on the Xbox 360 itself (which should be 192.168.1.100)
  5. For forwarding the ports, the same figure will be entered into External Port Start, External Port End, Internal Port Start and Internal Port End
  6. When Xbox is selected three ports will populate – 88 on UDP, 3074 on TCP and 3074 on UDP
  7. Two more ports will need to be added – 53 on TCP and 53 on UDP (Note – the Server IP Address will be the internal static IP you have assigned to the Xbox 360, not 192.168.1.XXX)

Setting up a static internal IP on the Xbox

First of all you must make sure that the Xbox is connected to the router either through an Ethernet cable or wirelessly to adjust these settings

Post-December Xbox Dashboard Update:

Please click here for a link to a video on youtube on how to select the network settings on the new Xbox Dashboard.

When manually putting in the IP settings, the following are the recommended settings:-

IP Address should be set to 192.168.1.100

Subnet Mask needs to be set to 255.255.255.0

Gateway needs to be set to the IP address of the router, which by default is 192.168.1.1

Pre-December Xbox Dashboard Update:

In My Xbox, scroll to the far right and select System Settings

Once in System Settings, select on Network Settings

From here follow the instructions for the Post-December Xbox Dashboard Update above.
